Default How to know which hole to put yamaha umax spring tangs in

I took my clutch sheaves and spring seat apart, and I cleaned everything up getting ready for my Yamaha umax spring install. There is no numbers on the spring holes, so which holes do I put the tangs in? Does the spring spacer go on before or after the spring seat goes on. Thanks!!

Slayer, I was told B-3 by my local cart shop. Block says B-4, take your pick!!

Spacer first, splines away from tranny, then spring seat, spring, then sliding sheave.

You better have the new style spring seat, or Block will be all over you!

You better be using "never seize" or I will be all over you!!!

Did I tell you I did a little write up in G8 on page 457 on this?

It may be beneficial for some to know that the writeup is post number 4568 since some of us have settings set to show more post per page.

I have done tons of clutches, and B/3 & B/4 are both correct answers depending on model. If i recall correctly, the G2/G9 (and all older carts with the clutches having 6 phillips head screws on the lid) were set B/4. All G16-G28 with the roller style (three 10mm bolts on lid) were set to B/3.

Ps, I agree with Mikes post above 100%.

Different springs? You can experiment with the different spots to a degree. The sliding sheave should have some preload on it, but cannot be twisted to the point where the spring coils are hitting the portion of the sliding sheave that lives inside the spring. Im pretty sure you know this, and it has been said elsewhere on the forum, just adding this info for the original question.

Thanks guys. I looked over your post mike mac. I just wanted to be 100% before I installed everything....lol I used b4 since thats what I couple guys said, and you agreed either would work...lol I didn't get the new style spring seat..... Just new ramp shoes for now. I plan on getting all new sheaves, and spring seat within the next year....This is just a cheap job so I have torque right now. I got everything new ramp shoes, umax spring, and spacer for less than $30 bucks! I put the tangs in the b and 4 slots, and started pushing the sheave in, and the ramps are like not touching. After getting everything installed I put it in nuetral, and seen if it worked. The ramps are now touching correctly. Is that the correct way to do it? I tried to turn the sheave as I was clamping it back....Didn't want to turn that much. Anyways. I used never seize! lol I plan on testing it out tomorrow...Thanks for all the help guys!
