Hey guys ....been a while still going on the hot rod/golf buggy ( more pics to upload soon) ...as part of my project I removed the lever/cable assembey that is connected to a shaft into the gearbox/diff ...does any body know what that does and can it be disconnected....early yamaha probably a g2

It is the governor arm, it is intended to regulate speed. Even if you bypass it by re-routing throttle cables, i feel you should leave the arm on there with a light spring pulling towards the cable bracket towards the rear of the cart to keep light tension on the governor internals.

I cut the shaft off at the level of the gearbox so my honda engine fits in with the overall design of my hotrod/golf buggy.... Ive got conflicting ideas whether this will leave the govenor active or inactive

The honda has its own governor. The one in the original axle may become a transmission destroying problem tho.

I opened my tranny for that very reason CG, and removed the gov parts. But after getting in there, I saw no reason to have done so. All the gov parts are very well built, and saw no sign of wear on any part of it.

Cool, i never needed to work in the yamaha axle. In the newer axles, if the weights get past the collar on the input shaft, they can strike other gears. And the dana governor shaft/fork can cause all kinds of hell if it gets to spin in its non native direction. I was not sure about the older yamaha axle, so i would rather error on the side of caution. I really love the durability of the original yamaha axle. (And, i hear it is back in the new adventurer, we cant get rid of them, so we dont order them)

I dont need the govenor on the gearbox to operate ...prefer it not to be actually...I understand the Honda engine has its own governor so I dont want to restrict the top speed of my project

CG, I went in there chasing a metalic sound. Found out all the nuts and bolts were loose from the build, nothing associated with the rear end!!

I know what you mean, i keep welding my vertical tailpipe/muffler bracket, it keeps finding a new place to break. I wish i could blame it on dragging over stuff, then it would have a good reason for breaking. I refuse to buy a new one, they think the baffles are gold plated....
