If I hold the plug in my hand and grab anything on the cart it will shock me really good but still can only barley see spark when I hold it to the cart. I have tied 3 different plugs too. No change. But I am getting a little spark while its turning over and that's more than what I was getting at first. We had 8 inches of snow here in Alabama. The cart ran good for two days then it acted like it wanted to run out of gas going up hill but I think it was gradually loosing spark then it just quit on us. I think I will still spend the $10 on an he I for it.

Is the motor grounded good to the negative side of the battery?

As far as I can tellits grounded good but tomorrow I'm taking a wire brush to all the connections and try to get the best ground I can but I did add another ground from the battery to the engine.

Apparently the hei went bad after about a mile, the hei that I borrowed happen to be bad so I went back to the part store and swapped mine for a new one and it fired right up. I have it mounted to the frame with the grease that was supplied with it and soldered the ground on. So my question is what would make one burn out other than not doing those things to it ? Do I need some kind of resistor for it ?

I have installed several hei and had no problems. One, i never mount them to a steel frame, i always use aluminum bar 1/4" or 3/16. with thin coat of thermal grease. Steel does not dissipate the heat fast enough for electronics. Check your voltage, should be 13.5 to 14.5 , if you have 15-18v ,that will overheat hei and ignitors. Be sure you have a new spark plug , i believe in resistor type due to sensitive electronics. Might replace spark plug wire,if your getting shocked.

OK that's what I was thinking of getting a heatsink from an old amp or an old computer they have large ones and as far as getting shocked that was just my way of testing it by holding it 2 inches from the frame and didn't realize that the hei would put enough too shoot a spark that far lol
