Cool Clutch Spring

I have a 1988 gas golf cart with the 244cc robins 2 cycle, I am trying to find a clutch spring replacement and apparently the spring isn't available anymore, have to buy the whole clutch assemble, which I don't need. does anyone know of a combatable high torque / performance clutch spring that I can use ?

I'm interested in an answer myself but there's a few different aftermarket clutches available, Is yours the factory original?

If you have your spring out and in hand you should be able to find a replacement from a few sites by comparing, You'll need to know the dimensions including wire size...

Mine is some kind of aftermarket Comet 102c look-alike and I've always felt it engages to soon on my 85 Marathon (1000-1200rpm), I really think it's for the newer 4-cycle engine. Once I get a spider removal tool I'll be able to get it in hand and hopefully find a stronger one, Hope that helps

I don't have the driven spring out, I was going to change it but I didnt want to be without one, mine seems to be working ok, it seems as if it has lost some of its spring retention, plus I wont a high torque / performance spring to help with hill climbing as well. Thanks for your suggestion.

Ooooops, I assumed you were talking about the drive clutch spring. I can go check what color my driven clutch spring is but not sure that'll help as it's not the original factory driven clutch either

EDIT; Ok just looked and yes my driven clutch is green

Well I guess I'll have to buy 3 or 4 springs an try them out until I find one that works. Green must be original spring then, atleast its a start.

Im not familiar with these driven clutches buy on the only 2 cycle Yamahas we would make shims out of PVC pipe to help the lazy spring 1/4-1/3 inch thick shim would make a world of difference

Gee, I hadn't thought about shims. Wonder if that'd work in the drive clutch to delay engagement? Hmmm

It should it's essentially giving you a higher spring rate
