If the FNR switch is suspected, you can check the voltage drop across it by putting one voltmeter lead on the switch input terminal (from the bat), and the other lead on the output terminal going to the starter generator. I don't know what the spec would be but it should be pretty low, less than a half volt I would think. That's while cranking it over, of course.

I had the same problem. Starter tested good, the brushes were worn, but not all the way to the wear marks. Brushes are $12 so I went ahead and replaced them. Also cleaned up inside the starter. Works great now! It's worth the ten minutes.

I just changed the brushes and that was my main problem. You can see that they were almost down to the line. They look like they still could be good enough but no.

My A1 terminal is toasted. Trying to decide between new import or find a good repair shop. I would prefer the later, just not sure where to take it.

Took the end of the starter generator off and the brush holder was broken where the A1 terminal is connected. I found the cap complete with brush holder, brushes and terminals on eBay for $34. I cleaned everything up, installed the new cap and the starter generator is working as it should.

I should know better than to take anything to that shop. They are the largest used golf cart distributor in the world. Pretty well known place in Georgia. I guess I go there because they have a ton of parts but they don't have mechanics just parts replacers.
