1. Sounds like the hei module is heat soaking.
Do you have a thick aluminum plate or pc heatsink you can use instead of the steel?
Also drill out the small holes for the locator pins instead of clipping them off to make sure you have a very flush surface. Dont forget the conductive grease.

2. Some 4 pin modules were designed to run on a resistor. Since all are just aftermarket copies you maybe getting one of these instead of the later universal units. Try adding a resistor to the power lead into the module. This will also reduce heatsoak.

Man that's one I have not heard adding resistors. Good idea. The modules have all been from autozone very generic duralast. And to be honest I have tried three and all have had saddle diffrence Color, ground eyelet etc. I will add resistors in line.

The ballast resistor on a car goes on the main feed wire before the coil and module. Both are fed off the resistor.
The problem is starting.
On a car when you crank it and the voltage drops there is not enough volts to allow for spark.
A car has a bypass wire that is hooked to the switch and it disengauges when the starter turns off.

Not all resistors, modules, batteries, or coils are created the same.
Try it hooked up inline feeding both the coil and module.
If it does not start hook the coil up before the resistor and only have the module feeding from the resistor.

OK I just have some generic resistors I think I bought from radio shack. If I'm understanding correctly I wanticipate one in the power wire that feed the hei. And one in the power that feeds the coil correct?

Those from radio shack are probably too small and probably will not flow enough amps.

Car resistors are pretty cheap.
