These connections are in an acidic environment 100% of the time. A properly soldered/shrink wrapped connection has no exposed wire for corrosion to take hold on. No one can say that about a crimped connection. You can't even clean/neutralize a crimped connection properly. That is the reason I solder.

Thanks for all the information. Lots of different ideas out there. I'm replacing my battery supports on my 2002 CC. I've got all my batteries out. Going to clean up all the loose wires and will try the soldered cables when I put it back together. Had soldered cable on before with no heat shrink. No problems but got oxidezed.
