Default FE290 engine runs better with breather hose off.

Been trouble shooting an issue on my 2005 Carryall / FE290. Cranks right up and runs for a short time and seems to stall out, almost seems to flood out. Pulled clean the carb, same issue. Installed the carb off my other carryall which has no issues and same issue. Today while stalled in the woods I took the crankcase breather hose off and it seems to run fine? reinstall it while running in Maint. mode and it stalls right out.

Any ideas?

Sounds like a blockage in your intake system or maybe the choke is stuck(?).

Checked the choke, air cleaner and intake tube going to the air box.

Is there any chance the intake hose is sucking together or pinched starving it of air (since it picked up after you removed the breather hose and gave it another intake source )?

Naw, that would be too easy. Everything seems to be wide open; makes no sense to me.

Used compressed air and blew everything out, seems to be clean.

Subscribed!

I'm curious though...
Is it the crankcase breather tube? or the air intake tube?

Whoops! I just thought of something!

IF it was the intake hose you took off and it ran better...
There's a plastic duct that runs from the air box to the drivers side wheel well... It may be plugged with mud/debris!

It's the crankcase hose off the valve cover and the intake tube from front to air cleaner was blown out with 160 psi and seemed to be very clear.

Been driving it around and it drives better, but is spitting out what seems like a mixture of oil and gas out of the breather hose, valve seals ????

Okay... wait... wait... wait!

Here's what I think... (just my common sense, so take it for what you will!)

The crankcase breather is a type of PCV valve (Positive Crankcase Ventilation)
and it's supposed to redirect oil/fuel vapors from the crankcase back through the carburetor to get burned up through the combustion stage.
Now... with that hose disconnected, you will get "drippings" from it when it's hanging loose,
AND... your carb gets more air to breath with that port open!

This is what I'd like you to try...
Reconnect the breather hose to the carb, THEN... release the clamps on your air filter box and prop the lid open with something,
Then take it for a ride to see if the performance improves,
IF... it does improve, it could be the the duct that I mentioned previously is plugged! (I've heard of that before)
If the performance doesn't improve, THEN... we'll go on to other troubleshooting!

Big Mule? I've got a feeling you were on the right track!
