Re: Towed 88 ez go, did i break it?
Ok, we are getting somewhere now. That is definitely not an 88. It's a 79 with internal starter, and points.
These are the three things that I would look at. Timing: You said the screw was missing from the points. It could be as simple as adjusting the timing. Fuel pump: It could still be a ripped diaphragm letting gas directly into the engine. Crankshaft seals: Stopping suddenly while driving would lead me to believe that a seal popped out completely. Not just worn out. That's why I asked if it backfired. That causes seals to pop. Start with the simplest things, and work from there. Read the link I posted on fuel pumps. Your compression is great. Loose points are bad. |

Re: Towed 88 ez go, did i break it?
So, turn of events. I had bought a new coil originally, thinking that was the issue. I for some reason after all of this decided to plug the old one back in. And it fired. But. .. all it will do is pop. ...

Re: Towed 88 ez go, did i break it?
Can you take a nice clear picture of your carburetor?
Something doesn't look right there. Your governor is still connected. Your throttle lever is closed, but it looks like your throttle cable is being pushed to open position. You are also missing a spring from the end of the throttle cable. I would really like to take a better look. Two pictures would be great. One with the pedal pushed all the way. |

What did you set your points at, gap wise. Were they gapped at TDC?

Haven't had time to get anything more done yet, never done timing before so have been waiting on my mechanic buddy to help.

Re: Towed 88 ez go, did i break it?
Been busy with work but finally got back to it. Did my best with setting the points. Gapped right and opens 20 degrees before tdc, within reason anyway. Brushes also look fine. It will run, but there is no power to actually move the cart. Replaced all fuel just in case, and fuel filters. Air filter as well. New plug gapped .28 to .30 per manual specs. The spring holding the throttle open is alittle cobbled but even holding wide open with my hand doesn't change, will have more pictures shortly.
