Default Charger won't go above 10 Amps

I have an old Club Cart. I'm not sure the year since the S/N is unreadable. I got it about two years and since I've had it the charger never gets above 10 amps.
I had figured that I had a weak battery and that was limiting the current. This weekend I met somebody that has a similar (slightly newer) cart as mine but with the same charger connection. When I plugged his charger into my cart, to my surprise it drew 20+ amps.

The cart is 36V and the charger connection is a 2 prong plug. Like I said I'm not sure the year, but I think its 80's or early 90's. There is no electronic controller, but rather some solenoids (?) and coils (?) mounted behind the batteries.

Can anybody offer a suggestion why the charger would only supply 10Amps ?
Any advice is appreciated
Thanks

Maybe it's designed to supply 10 amps?

Those old Lestronic chargers were Ferro-Resonant and they have a capacitor that tunes the charger current output.

The capacitor is bad and needs to be replaced.

RevolutionGolfCars.com (TahoeDawg) may have the capacitor for those chargers if You email him with the charger model number.

Maybe, but I don't think so. The Amp meter on the from goes to 30 Amps

I'll have to get the charger P/N. Is there more than 1 Capacitor?

Thanks

I am not sure if they used different values, it is a "Motor Run" 600v type capacitor, perhaps You can look at the capacitor to see if the the micro-farad value is still visible.

Just make sure the charger has been unplugged from the AC outlet for at least 20 minutes before touching the capacitor as it packs a good punch.

Thanks for the advice. I don't have the charger with me, but I will get it on the weekend. From your description I am guessing it's a pretty large capacitor. It will hopefully become evident when I take the cover off.

I'll report back what I find and if the Capacitor replacement fixes my problem

These style capacitors tend to be around the size of a D battery or larger
