Re: Yamaha G9 start problem.
did you check voltage at the S/G and check the brushes in the S/G?

Re: Yamaha G9 start problem.
OK then check the small terminals on the solenoid. One side should be +12VDC with key on and pedal depressed. The other should have continuity to ground all the time.
I'd bet you're missing ground at the solenoid. May be worth trying to just run a jumper wire from that terminal directly to the negative battery terminal for testing and see what happens. |

Re: Yamaha G9 start problem.
next steps would be check the ignition key switch and the pedal switch. when key is turned on you should have 12v at both wires at the switch. one of those wires goes to the gas pedal so you should have 12v at one of the wires at the gas pedal. when you press the gas pedal down both wires should have 12v, which feeds to the solenoid.
You're losing power somewhere between the battery and the solenoid, and the only things in between are the key switch and pedal switch. |

Re: Yamaha G9 start problem.
Have 12v going in an out of both the switch and gas pedal switch.

Re: Yamaha G9 start problem.
G9 12v goes to the key, the pedal, then back white/red wire to solenoid/coil/ignitor. That white/red wire should be hot with key on and pedal down and run all three. If it is then grounds are bad, the grounds are wired. Usually you will see power in the ground wires if bad connection when you try it. Any connector or connection is suspect, its very common for them to fail at this age.

Re: Yamaha G9 start problem.
I found a white wire with a black stripe I believe it is and its broken off at the connector. Going into the black box by the coil and gas tank. Could that cause it.
