sorry for being beer-ed out

I think I may have become allergic to beer... Used to enjoy it but seems the last year or so if I have even half a beer my voice gets all scratchy and I can't talk for a couple hours.

I just picked up a bottle of buffalo trace last night though. Just waiting for that 5:00 bell to ring

if I got allergic to beer i would have to cut my own throat.

after 17 times counting the splines it is 19 and the outside diameter in 7/8

RING RING it is beer o'clock in Georgia.
i was born with a scratchy voice and don't talk well

Bummer. It was worth a try anyway. Guess it's back to making it work with a keyway.

I was thinking about it, and before searching for collars and stuff, maybe grind a spline out of the input shaft for a key. Then use a dremel and cut a keyway into the steel part of the clutch and find a key that fits your new keyway. Dont think this would really be any different than using a collar and doing it that way, the tighter the key fits the better. Maybe could hammer the key in from the outside once the clutch is on.

Maybe that makes sense?

That's pretty close to what I suggested in my last post! Except I still included a sleeve in the clutch. If the clutch centre is definitely steel, then no sleeve is required. Cut out one spline on the input shaft to create a anyway and cut a matching keyway in the clutch and it's job done! At least you can revert back to a spline clutch later if required. Just one spline will be missing on the shaft. This will only work without a sleeve if the clutch centre is already a good fit on the shaft, but i suspect free spinning has caused too much wear.

That diff and splined shaft looks like the one on my EZGO Marathon. I would find out if Textron (the owner/builder of EZGO) built the Diff for Toro/MTD if so any of the clutch companies should be able to get you a clutch.

The clutch is available, but at a premium price tag of around $500. He only paid something like $500 for both rigs, so I can completely understand looking for a cheaper alternative to keep the build cost down (which is the main goal here).

Any updates on this?

Call up Gboost technology, they work with lots of clutches for things. That axle sure looks familiar to golf cart stuff, like Ezgo. Here's a pic of the Ezgo gas axle from TXT with Robin engine, some of the Ezgo used team clutches too.

I never even looked at this thread 'till now, I was thinking "who's the dum dum posting Toro in the Yamaha stuff?"

I found this clutch piece, it's from an Ezgo, but it slipped right on a Yamaha input shaft that originally held a team secondary, so I'm betting the splines are common. If you can use it, let me know and we will figure something out. It's not even all rusty & crappy. It's not a team clutch, it's one like in the axle pic I posted above, but maybe you can do something with the splined part.
