Question play in rack and pinion stearing box

Is there a way to tighten the play in the rack and pinion steering box on a g-16? I have some play in my steering box between the steering wheel and the arm that comes from the pinion box. I know on a automobile there is a way to adjust this play but I don't know if it can be done on a Yamaha g-16 cart. Thanks for your reply.

The steering in No G16 was rack and pinion, that wasn't offered until 2003 G22 (excluding G5). But yes, there is a nut and a screw on top of the box. Make very small adjustments, tighten and retest. Too much adjustment will result in binding at the far left and right steering. You will have to find the best balance of "not binding at far left & right", and tighter feel "at center". You will not be able to get rid of all play, just improve it some...
