Default Effects of valve adjustment

Pardon my lack of knowledge in this area but what do properly adjusted valves do to a cart? More power? Smoother/quieter running? I doubt mine have ever been adjusted so I'm curious to know if they need adjusting or not? I have an older G9 and she runs loud but I figured that was due to her age.

Thanks!

How exactly do you mean by "runs loud"? Probably more along the lines of an exhaust leak if it's loud.

Misadjusted valves can either be too loose, or too tight.

IF too tight, the valves are not allowed to close all the way which will cause loss of compression and performance. IT can be quite noticeable. I've actually bought project machines before that they told me it needed the motor rebuilt because there was no compression just to find the valves were out of adjustment. Adjust the valves and have it fire off like new

If they're too loose, they can cause premature wear to the valve seats and head, cause a lot of noise (clatter/ticking from the top of the motor) and if they get too loose, will change the valve timing because they're not opening all the way so they open late, and close early. And one step looser than that, you'll have push rods fall out and the motor will stop running.

If you've never done it, then i would highly recommend adjusting the valves. Please reference your previous thread on the subject.

What I meant by loud was a rattling noise from the engine at full speed so I assumed the valves were probably loose. Doesn't blow smoke and runs fairly smooth considering its age.

As always thanks for the advice!!!

If you can hear them rattling definitely adjust them before you lose a push rod! Typical rattling valves you would never hear when driving thr cart. The seat, body, etc muffle a lot of it and the wind noise would cover the rest.

I was surprised the valves weren't that far off but I did hear a difference after tightening them up just a bit.

Thanks for all the advice!!!
