Ran fine, then just stopped, turns over, but no go
1997 Yamaha G16 AR sat for 5 months, added some new gas with Sea Foam and cart ran fine for past few days.
Last night, took off and within a few hundred yards, engine stopped, and though it would continually turn over, no start, no go. This morning, it started up and ran about 100 yards, then same thing, turns over well, but no start. Spark seems fine, and fuel in fuel filter which is between tank and fuel pump. Any way to check fuel pump? Believe it’s a non Yami pump, as a couple years ago being in a remote area, it was what I could, but cart has run OK for a couple years, about 20 hours. Would like to try and test fuel pump, and if by chance I can find another non Yami, recently read where some of them come with arrows pointing in wrong direction...anyone ever hear about this? Thanks for any input. |

Re: Ran fine, then just stopped, turns over, but no go
Pull the fuel line from the carb and see if it spurts gas when cranked. Use an inline spark detector and check it when it's running, and when it's just cranking...

Re: Ran fine, then just stopped, turns over, but no go
OK....here’s my latest.
Pulled line from pump to carb, and it seems to be pumping plenty of gas to carb. Used one on those inline spark detectors, and sparks appeared yellowish in color in the inline detector...is that right color or should they be blue? Can probably find a spark plug on this island, but not sure of gap requirements? Would the next step be to pull air filter and shoot carb cleaner into carb while cranking? BTW, think it’s a non Yamaha carb, maybe 2-3 years old, so could that be an issue having just recently put SeaFoam in the gas...and maybe some trash got caught in carb as a result? As one can tell.....I’m not a mechanic, but willing to try most anything. Thx again. |
