Over tightening stuff is a rookie mistake. Judge the size of the nut or bolt and apply pressure accordingly. 90% of amateur mechanics over tighten everything.

Thanks for the tip! To clarify though, the previous damage technically came when I was tyring to back the nut off (rusty nut stuck to rusty post/bolt = entire thing spinning) Nonethless, point taken and I appreciate the heads up!! I just really wanted to make sure I wasn't at risk of a leaf spring falling apart or something on the axle screwing up when I removed the existing U-bolt. Although, I'll have to admit, the existing U-bolt is barely hanging on there now - I can move it prolly 1-2 inches with my hand!
