OBC hole

hey gang,

I see lotsa posts regarding getting bigger cables thru the OBC.

So I am thinking (it hurts) how much excess plastic is around the hole in the OBC. How much plastic could a guy file, or drill away, before some electronic componet or wires are hit? Is there enough room to then get a 2 gauge cable thru the hole?

Anybody ever cut an OBC in 1/2 ?

NO Stop. Run a cable in parallel with the wire through the obc.

I am not wiring or rewiring my car, or taking it apart - it runs just fine. Except for the nearly dead batteries.

I'm just asking if anybody has played with the OBC, enlarged the hole, cut it in 1/2, torn it apart. How much excess plastic is around the hole?

NO you can NOT cut or drill a hole in the OBC

you need to leave your 6ga cable through the hole hooked up, and add what ever size cable your are going to use, and just run your 4/2ga cable around the out side of the OBC, and hook it up to the same battery post, that the 6ga cable that is going through the OBC,

Every OBC I have seen that was reamed out for a bigger cable ......... failed.
That's why I saw them, they were in for replacement. So it must be true, there is no fudge room.

I like the Avatar you have. We have two of them. This is our 3rd set.

Take a 3" length of 5/16 threaded stainless steel. Wrap a 1/2" thick piece of insulator tape in the center. Stack yourself 2 x 1 1/2" neoprene 5/16 washers, 2 x 1" 5/16 plastic washers. One on each side of the tape gap. Then stainless washer and nut on either side to snug the shaft up in the hole. Then the stainless washers and nuts to make battery posts on either side after the first set of washers and nuts. 3" works depending on the thickness of your washers.

Be careful not to overtighten the nuts after placing stack through the hole and you obviously have to hold the first set of nuts with a wrench when tightening the final nuts. Now you essentially have battery posts on either side of the OBC and you can do whatever thickness of cable you want. It looks like CC made it that way. I used 4 gage I had custom made by a guy on eBay. They were beautiful. You can have them color coded to the stock cables. Coat everything in dielectric grease.

Hi Andy,

She is our 5th schnauzer. We have had then two at a time also. She is part Schnauzer & part (we think) chihuahua. 10 lbs & she thinks she is a doberman.
