You should do a compression test. If your rings or valves are not good then you will get oil in the filter box. this could be an early warning sign of intake valves and/or rings worn.

Drained the oil and cleaned the filter and refilled with 1 1/2 quarts. No more oil in the air filter housing! Guess I overfilled it. Now at 1 1/2 quarts only half way in the safe zone. I also checked the compression. What should it be dry and what should it be wet?
