Re: Newbie 87 DS No Reverse
Gentlemen, I just looked at the wiring again. When I got the cart, the cable on the driver side lower lug of the F/R switch was connected to pos on battery #1, and the pass side lower lug of the F/R switch was connected the BATTERY HOLD DOWN as if they were trying to ground it. Other threads suggest that these should both be connected to positive battery terminals. (Forward on battery #1 for 36 volts, and Reverse to battery # 3 for 18 volts.) Can someone confirm that the cable currently grounded to battery hold down needs to go to # 3 battery positive terminal?

Re: Newbie 87 DS No Reverse
yes both to battery pos,s theres no way anything should be grounded to a battery hold down so this may be your problem..........and remember nothing on an elec cart ever gets grounded to anything other than a battery neg. terminal.........hook your cables up right and that may solve your issue..........................

Re: Newbie 87 DS No Reverse
Thanks for your help, Shadowman. I'll go give it a try after I get some work in this office done. Hopefully this will be the culprit. I just wonder why someone would have done that. The cart was utilized by the prior owners at some point. They didn't have reverse either, obviously.

Re: Newbie 87 DS No Reverse
Imagine that. Put the right cable in the right place and things work. Thanks for your help guys. Any idea why this thing lacks power? New batteries, fully charged, but not broken in, cruised around for a mile or two today and an now recharging. Tough to climb any moderately steep hill. Flat road speed of appx 10-12 MPH (guessing). I know its only 6 volts, but most carts I've driven at the course do much better.

Re: Newbie 87 DS No Reverse
ok so things work now stock speed is 10 to 12 mph and if batteries are new they are only 75% so after they are broke in it will get better not much on hills as they are just slow that way...........make sure you break them in right the batteries that is............yeah its crazy how things work when cables are in the right place..........................

Re: Newbie 87 DS No Reverse
Also, I was thinking of lifting it. My gut tells me that that might be a mistake if this thing is going to be anemic. What do you think? Is there anything that can be done without breaking the bank to achieve more power?

Re: Newbie 87 DS No Reverse
well depends on just what breaking the bank means......yes you can get more power and longer run time and no it isn,t cheap.........your looking at 700 dollars plus...............if you lift it the way it is because its a 5 solenoid setup which isn,t the most effiencent it will be ok on flats but will really fall on its face on inclines and hills...........but if you decide you want to upgrade talk with scotty he sells a complete setup and you won,t beat the after the sale service and his price will be right in line with anyone elses................................
