Default DS Series owners with Alltrax controllers...

A friend of mine has a 01 DS 48V Series with the Curtis 1204 stock controller and wants to get some more speed on his cart. Has anyone with one of these carts upgraded just the controller to an Alltrax 300 or 400A and what kind of speed did you gain?

Tell your friend that increasing the available amperage to a series motor will increase the torque it produces but, it will not increase the speed the motor turns at.

I guess I need to track down a 36V motor for him because I think they give 25-30% gains alone if I remember right.

I have a 95 48v DS cart and I replaced a bad curtis 1204 with an alltrax NPX 300 and gained 0mph so you would need a different motor to increase speed.

I picked up about 3mph on mine when going to altrax 400 on stock motor, but it is because I went to larger tires with lift and removed regen braking at the same time.

Thanks for the replies. Seems like finding a 36V Series motor is getting harder to do these days!

Even my 650 amp alltrax didnt add any MPH, TONS of torque though. D&d motor got me almost 29 MPH on stock tires!
