Stay away from the key switch. You want the radio to save settings anyway, right? So you don't want to switch the constant power. There should be a way to switch the display off when the radio power is off. Honestly, the only radios that I have seen that still display the clock when the power is off are factory car radios. Sony may have made that an option on yours because it is a nice feature in a vehicle or even a boat. I doubt it's drawing that much power, but if you want it off, there should be a way to do it without losing your radio memory.

Crash Test - it is a bit of a rats nest behind the dash, which is one reason I didn't want to undo anything. When I first got my cart, I installed the OEM light kit that installs partly to wiring behind the dash and draws power from one of the 12v pack batteries. Later I added the radio and used the same power and ground sources. It was later that I realized that wasn't going to suffice for me because when the batts got week, the lights would go dim and the radio would turn off every time I hit the accel pedal. So, I added the extra battery and rewired the accessory power behind the dash to that.

Yuny - found this on Crutchfield.com for your radio:

Display Illumination/Clock Display: Pressing the Off button once will turn off audio output, but the clock display and face/button illumination remain on. This makes the clock display and face/button illumination "Keyed" instead of "Unit On" only. To turn the unit off completely, you must press the Off button for two seconds.

Here's another nice feature in case you forget to turn it off:

Auto Off: When installing in a vehicle without an accessory power wire at the radio location, you can set the unit to turn off automatically after a set amount of time. The Auto Off feature can be set to 30 seconds, 30 minutes, 60 minutes, or No.




Also, your unit has a detachable face so you can pull it off as well and then there will be no display to worry about.

Found this in the Sony website, I think I solved the problem.

Warning if your boat’s ignition has no
ACC position
Be sure to set the Auto Off function
(page 14). The unit will shut off
completely and automatically in the set
time after the unit is turned off, which
prevents battery drain. If you do not set
the Auto Off function, press and hold
until the displaydisappears each time you turn the
ignition off.
