Default G9 runs about 30 mins and gets extremely hot

It usually starts fine when it is first started. We use it in a campground that has lots of hills. It does ok on the hills but the longer you drive the worse it does. Then you can feel the heat coming up between the seat and rear of the cart. It has actually warped the body. We park it and lift the seat to let it cool. If we try to drive it again before it is completely cool it is hard to start. It will move by the starter for about 10 yards until it starts to fire then it sputters and you can smell gas. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

There are several possibilities. First off is the engine shroud in place? Are the fins on the engine clean, the one you see and the ones under the shroud. If there is a restriction of air flow it will cause it to overheat. Next if the engine is running lean it will overheat. Carb could be dirty. Also make sure the oil is at the right level.

Also make sure the small vent on top of the fuel tank is clear.

Thanks for the response. The shroud is in place but it looks like a piece is missing where the air exits toward the rear. I just changed the oil and replaced with 1 quart so it should be good. I will clean the carb and check the fins.

My next project cut holes in the body by your legs put speaker covers on them to let air in.

One thing I've been told was to cool off the coil with some component cooler from radio shack to see if it will start again and run smooth but, the nearest radio shack to me is about 60 miles away so, I'm waiting. I suppose you could use water but, I'm a little fearful of pouring on water and cracking something.

I would not put water on a hot engine, it might crack a cyl head or case.
