Negative wire from pack to controller very hot
Guys,
DCS txt cart. I drive the cart about 0.5 miles up and down some pretty big hills and then stop. I check the wiring and the negative wire from the pack to controller is very hot. No other wires are hot. Wires between batteries are 4 ga, negative wire from pack to controller is 6 ga. I've ordered parts to replace all wires to 2 ga. Wires are all tight. I know the wire size will help. Is there something else wrong? Thanks for the help. |

Re: Negative wire from pack to controller very hot
I think it's just that cable. Being that it's 6ga, it's a resistance point and will create heat. When you get all of your high current cables changed, your problem should be over!

Re: Negative wire from pack to controller very hot
Is the whole cable hot, or is one or the other (both?) end hot?

Not much, other than you could choose to replace just one cable, if money is tight.
Hot cable on a battery terminal could result in permanent damage, as some folks have literally melted the lead. |

Don't just tighten it, if it's the battery terminal. Clean it up and torque it to the proper torque. We're talking inch-pounds, not foot-pounds.

Re: Negative wire from pack to controller very hot
Ya.. they were the batteries that came with my cart - they weren't well maintained, the cart had taken a swim ("never been off road" the ad said!), the wires were junk, and the first time we drove it up our driveway, that happened.
Researching the issue led me to this site, I signed up, it's been all down-hill (financially!!) since then! :D ..a |
