Re: 1984 EZGO Electric to Gas Conversion
I did finally get my wheels and tires today from Rocky Top Carts In Chicago. I was going to get some nice chrome wheels but then I decided they will just get trashed since I mostly use the cart for hauling wood and brush around my property. Plus here in Oregon it rains constantly and everything rusts so I went with plain black steel rims. I am impressed with the quality they are pretty thick steel and nice tires for $395.00.

Re: 1984 EZGO Electric to Gas Conversion
I will use the motorcycle engine transmission it has 3 speeds forward and 1 reverse. It goes counter clock wise for forward like my stock electric rear end requires. I wish I had a gas rearend with the reverse switch then I could go crazy street bike or quad engine on it. The engine I ordered is a automatic so I don't have to mess with building clutch linkage. I have put several of these 125cc engines in honda ct70s but 4 speed manual transmissions and they get it. I am pretty sure with the cart gearing it will work fine my only worry is the automatic clutch getting hot when I pull a big load of wood but parts are cheap for these engines and I can always upgrade engine later if it doesn't work. The fun for me is building it. I am really looking forward to having electric start and lights but I am not sure how much power these little engines put out for lights I might have to use led lights.

Re: 1984 EZGO Electric to Gas Conversion
I got my engine today finally!! I had to drive to the UPS depot to pick it up due to it needed a signature in person. I really hate signature delivery what is the point I always end up having to go track it down. So the night is gone so I will try to get the engine swap started tomorrow after work. hope everyone is well.

Re: 1984 EZGO Electric to Gas Conversion
I got some time to start my Honda copy engine swap today I pulled the briggs engine and started building a frame to hold the new engine. I can already see its going to be a really tight fit.

Re: 1984 EZGO Electric to Gas Conversion
I wanted to get enough of a frame to hold the engine so I could see if its going to fit. I had to turn the drive sprocket and keeper around so the chain wont rub on the case. It looks like I might have to make a new mount for the passenger back rest to make room for the carburetor and intake manifold. Any suggestions? The only other thing I can think of is to add more lift to make space. The exhaust I think will be fine I can just make a custom pipe.

Re: 1984 EZGO Electric to Gas Conversion
I think I got the engine cradle pretty much built. I am planning on adding the chain tensioner that hooks to the engine/transmission rear mount tomorrow if I get time to work on it.

Lookin good! I'm interested in seeing how well this works and what kind of power/speed you get out of it. Pretty cool.
You going to put the rear cover back on the electric motor? That way there's something holding the bearing so the armature sill be less likely to wobble... |

Re: 1984 EZGO Electric to Gas Conversion
Hi it goes pretty slow I am thinking about mounting a jack shaft to gear it up I think the stock electric rear ends were 12.1 ratio. I can't find the specs for the engine/transmission. Its not to bad in third gear but 1st and second are like rock crawler mode. Its still pretty fun. I moved the build to the engine swap thread. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/bike-...-electric.html
