OK, I just opened the pedal box back up and viola! There it is. So, I have a question about this micro switch. Does the PDS computer not only need to know the throttle position, but also if the throttle is closed or some other position? It seems it could tell that by looking at the ITS? Or, do I have this all wrong.......

The pedal microswitch performs several functions in a PDS cart.

It tells the controller when to energize and de-energize the solenoid, when to initiate regenerative braking, when to activate the Walkaway safety mode, when to activate HPD (High Pedal Disable) and maybe a couple other things that don't come to mind at the moment.

There is a deadband between the pedal position where the pedal switch closes and the ITS signal increases, so just monitoring the ITS signal might not perform all the tasks as well, and a bad ITS signal is what HPD protects against.

I see. Thanks. I thought that the PDS just needed the throttle position and speed sensor inputs for the regen, but obviously there is more. And I understand the sensitivity issue between the ITS and the throttle switch. But, I must admit, it seems kind of clunky. A single device seems like would have sufficed. Thanks for explaining. I ordered one!

No, with a PDS controller, you can hold the pedal down slightly and not get regen.

Some of it is vehicular safety through redundancy and some of it is legacy design issues. EZGO didn't reinvent the wheel every time they brought out a new drive system, but I agree is is a clunky system.
