Fuel pump issue?
I,ve had cart for a little while now, slowly coming around. Long story short it not getting fuel, none on plug, Can I replace fuel pump with Briggs lawnmower fuel pump until I make sure that problem? It has 3 hose setup also and for engines to I believe 18 hp. If so I just need to figure routing. Thanks

Re: Fuel pump issue?
I would look for a clogged or split pulse line first. Blow air through the line back into the crank case, but hold rag over the oil fill tube, after removing the rubber cap. Fuel pumps rarily go bad.
Check fuel filter as well. Don't know what yr. car you have, early models have a filter in the tank. |

Re: Fuel pump issue?
This past Canada Day (yayyy!) weekend I had an issue with fuel starvation in my YamahaG-something. If I disconnected the line from tank to carb bowl and filled it directly using a tiny funnel it started and ran no problem but it would not draw fuel so I had to refill the line again and again. So , with the help of this awesome site (the posted sticky) I took apart my fuel pump and found that on the pulse side it was packed solid , and I mean SOLID with this white fuzzy crystalline crap and I could not blow air through the pulse tube port .
A quick cleaning and reassembly ( remembering to refill the fuel line/bowl once again ) and it ran like a top , really really well. The guy next door to me works for GeneralMotors and mentioned that this stuff is reside from ethanol in today's gasoline and that he has had the same issue periodically with his cart. I don't know for certain but it seems as though the pump does more than just fill the bowl but also provides fuel pressure to help the gasoline through the jets . Luckily ethanol-free gas is still available around here but the ol' girl has never run better for me once the pump was cleared Last edited by Shakey; 07-02-2014 at 02:05 PM.. Re: Fuel pump issue?
MR.Shakey, Thanks for your response. I did pull fuel pump off and was going to clean it, darn thing appeared to look new inside, i used welders tip cleaners to check holes and such, reassembled and tried to no avail. I,m trying to figure what pulse line mike mac talking about. I wanted to try mower fuel pump just to narrow it down a bit further. Thank you for your response.

Re: Fuel pump issue?
I have a similar issue with a 2000 G16 that I just picked up. It's pulling very little fuel into the filter and not consistently. I've replaced the fuel lines, pulse line, fuel filter, clamps and a new a Briggs & Stratton Fuel Pump. When starting, you can see a slight trickle of fuel into the fuel filter. I'm wondering if the pulse pressure is weak. It doesn't appear weak when I turn over the motor and hold my finger over the line. Feels like plenty of pressure, but I'm questioning everything at the moment.
Any help or idea's would be great. Thanks! |

Re: Fuel pump issue?
I also have fuel problems on my g 16 I was told by a few people that the fuel filter will not be full as you would think mine runs about 1/4 full. not sure if it needs more or not

Re: Fuel pump issue?
Hey guys,
Just wanted to chime in here. First thing, I 2nd the notion of the ethanol crap. Avoid using it all all costs!. It causes nothing but problems on small Carb'd engines. I only run ethanol-free fuel in any of my small engine carb'd items (including my buggy). It is well worth the premium you have to pay if/when you can find an ethanol-free gas station. Fortunately for me, I ahve one within 5 minutes of the house. I also add Sea Foam to my fuel containers I use to store the ethanol-free fuel which also helps keep things from clogging/gelling up greatly. As for your fuel problem. I have one of those Chinese knock-off quads for my son (150cc GY6 clone motor). I had the exact same problem over and over again......fuel starvation. If this thing sat for more than a week, the carb would seem clogged up (even with all the above mentioned prevention steps I took). I have 3 of the knock-off quads, but only this one gave me all the troubles. What I would do to get it running was to shoot a little compressed air into the fuel input port of the carb, hook the fuel line back up, and then it would run fine. So, with that said, I knew without a doubt it was the carb. I rebuilt it not once, but twice, but still had the same issues. I finally broke down and just bought a new carb. We are going on 6 months now and never has the issue returned. Even with it sitting for over a month at times, it'll fire right up. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and replace the carb instead of rebuilding. Hope this helps. Last edited by raenglehart; 07-03-2014 at 08:04 AM.. Reason: fix typo's |
