Default belt question

i just got a 98 club car gas and its not pulling that well. the clutch has been rebuilt i looked and noticed the drive belt has no groves in it its just smooth. all my other carts i have ever had the drive belts always had groves or notches in the belt is a smooth belt normal on a club car. thanks

Both types of belt are available Mike but the belt drives predominantly along the "vee" edge and not where the grooves are located at the bottom of the belt. I'm no expert but I reckon the grooved style belts allow for a little more flexibility around the pulleys but other than that I see or feel no difference in performance with either style.

Chris.

Tell us where the belt is on the driven clutch when your motor is stopped.
Then start the motor and slowly increase speed until the drive clutch starts pulling the cart, notice where the belt is in the drive clutch, is it in the middle? down low?
For best torque the belt should start off high as possible in the driven clutch and low as possible in the drive clutch.
Also, measure how wide your belt is.

its laying flat on the roller on the clutch on the motor it allmost seems like the clutch is not opening quick enough or hard enough. the clucth that was on it when i got did the same thing. It looks like the belt only goes about half way up on the clutch on the motor. how do you tell if the rear end clutch is working right

Look on the back clutch. Where it the belt sitting? is it flush with the top? is it about a 1/4 to 1/2" from the top? To put your cart in maintenance mode turn the yellow knob in the engine bay that is connected to the gear shift lever 180 degrees and put the gear shift lever in neutral. rev the engine how quick or slow does the belt drop down from the top of the rear clutch?
