Default 2010 EZGO PDS tire size

Im looking at two different 12 inch wheels and tire combos. I like the look of the 215/40/12s. Would this affect anything like steering or rubbing on the inside? Other set is 205/30/12. I ride mostly on street and some grass/dirt. I read the highest I can go is 20.5 inches with stock height, how about width Need a little help here. Thank you.

Thanks almost made a big mistake if I went to the 205/30/12s by loosing speed!

With a controller that doesn't limit motor to about 4400RPM like the Curtis 1206HB does, the speed loss would actually be less than 6.7% since the 7.1% torque gain is throughout the motors RPM spectrum and the motor would spin faster with the same voltage applied.

(FWIW: I run 17" tires and I get roughly the same speed as I would have from 18" tires, but my motor spins faster than it would with 18" tires)

You run into a similar trade-off with taller than stock tires. The torque loss won't allow the motor to reach as high of RPMs as it did with stock height tires, so the true speed gain is less than the mathematical speed gain.

However with the controller doing RPM limiting, you probably will see the 4.4% mathematical speed gain with the 215/40/12 tires.

I know you said you are looking at 12's but you also might want to have a look at 205-65-10's. I put a set of them with new wheels on my 2007 (without lift). They are listed on sidewall as 20.5 inches dia., but I have not actually measured them to confirm. So far I have had no issues with rubbing. My operation is mostly on level paved roads and (by seat of the pants) torque seems about the same and speed seems maybe a touch higher ( theoretically torque goes down and speed goes up with the increased dia.). They are good riding and smooth. I'm very happy with the outcome so far. You can see them in my Avatar. RAY

I used the tire calculator and a 205/65/10 comes up as 20.5 inches and so does a set of 215/50/12s. How do I calculate speed or torque loss?

Edited: I found a speed calculator as well. Its like an increase of 3.15 mph. stock 23 to 26.15.

Anyone run a 215/50/12?

Looking at these wheels and tire:

For torque changes calculate the difference between stock 18" tires and whatever you are asking about.... 20.7 inch tires = a 15% loss in torque.

Mathematically, the change is speed is equal to the change in the tire's circumference while the change in torque is equal to the change in the tire's radius.

With a 20.5" tall tire, the mathematical speed increase is 13.9% and the mathematical decrease in torque is 12.2%

Since the torque loss is across the entire RPM spectrum of the motor, the motor will not reach as high of an RPM with the taller tires, so the actual speed gain will be less than the mathematical speed gain.

My guess the speed on 20.5" tires will be 25.8MPH at the highest.

Thanks guys. But anyone run a 215/50/12? I got 4 tire choices: 225/35/12, 215/40/12, 215/50/12 and a 205/35/12. I kind of want a fatter tire then 205 and a taller tire then 35.

Just to update this thread. I bought fairway alloys flex tint wheels in a 12 size. The wheels are awesome and match my cart. ( Ill upload pics in daylight) The tire size I went with are 215/50/12. I wanted the width of a 215 and didnt want a low profile and didnt want a huge tire. I was nervous because of pictures I saw but when I got them they are perfect. No rubbing or height issues. Fills the fender area nicely and the ride is soooo much better then my stock wheels. Top speed with two adults and tires not inflated fully (my pump broke..) I hit 25.59. Before top speed with 1 adult was 23.37. Im hoping fully inflated with 1 adult 26 mph. This is basically a stock 48v txt. Not bad!

Is your speed measuring device really accurate to the hundredth of a mph? Haha. 25.59??
