Default Convert DCS to PDS?

My friend's DCS sepex cart keeps breaking the reverse microswitch. Can it be converted to the PDS style forward / reverse switch without too much trouble?

Thanks,
John

I guess it depends on your definition of "too much trouble". By my definition, no.

I think what you are asking about is can he change from the DCS shift device with the $30 micro switches to the PDS rocker switch. This is a fairly common request here. Below is the diagram for the conversion. Note the diode and it's direction between the green and yellow wires. A standard 1-3 amp golf cart diode like IN4004 will suffice.

If you are asking about changing the drive system from DCS to PDS that can easily be done also - just needs a few more parts

FWIW: EZGO mislabeled the F/R switch functions on their DCS schematics.

The top set of contacts ought to be labeled "RUN" instead of "FORWARD" since they have to be closed in both Forward and Reverse. (The top contacts forward pack voltage from the Run/Tow switch to the Keyswitch, which in turn forwards the voltage to the solenoid.)

The bottom set of contacts forward pack voltage to Pin-4 on the controller, telling it to go into the reverse mode of operation. (A DCS controller defaults to the Forward mode.)

Either a DPDT/center OFF switch can be used or a SPDT/center OFF (Like the PDS rocker switch) with a diode installed can be used.

I would think a DPDT center off with a nice housing similar to the club car would fit nicely over the original hole left by taking out the current FnR switch..

The CC F/R switch by your knee is a lot easier to reach than the EZGO PDS F/R switch on the dash.

Also, you don't have to extend the wires to reach the dash.

I was going to recommend that he get one of ScottyB's key/forward-reverse/voltage meter panels to replace his, but the CC leg mounted switch may be a better solution. Anyone know if it will cover the hole left by the old selector?

Yes it will just fine.. I have converted a couple of my PDS carts to this setup and the bodies are the same.
