Default Rear axle tube loose

Hello, New here but have been trying to find a thread that can help me out. I have a 89 Electric Marathon. It appears the hog is pitching back and forth and slipping on the axle tubes. It doesn't do it easily, such as moving it with your hands, but when it gets in a high torque situation. such as a steep hill. Are these just pressed in or do they have a shear pin/bolt to lock them?

thanks

I don't understand exactly what you are seeing. Do you mean the motor/gearbox is twisting forward and hit the batteries? Or maybe twisting back and hitting the bag well? That's what torque would do.

Yes but the gearbox is actually twisting and than staying twisted. I scored lines across the axle tube to the center. Back up a hill than the lines move and the motor is against the batteries. They stay there until I either power brake or pull it up a steep hill.

I would say that axle is toast. My guess is that there pressed in. You can try and center them back like they were originally and then wend them to keep them in place. Or buy a axle out of a parted out cart. They can't be that much.

I would probably wend it before I did the latter. Since your getting rid of it anyway.

I assume you mean "weld". I think the housing is aluminum and the tubes are steel. (Tough to weld, LOL) Even if it were cast iron, no fun to weld.

You could drill and tap the housing right where the tube is pressed in. Just so the bolt you use to lock it is not too long. (Scrape the axle shaft)

I have to wonder why the tubes are loose. I would inspect the housing good for cracks.

I guess I didn't pay enough attention! I assumed they were steel like autos. Yep weld is out of question. I too wonder why there loose but if mine I would drop it out and find a good used replacement.
