Default Need more torque and speed.

Have a 1997 EZ-GO gasser and I use it to pull our two drag cars at the track. The car it pulls most is a Rear engine dragster that weighs about 1800 lbs but occasionally will need to pull a 2800 lb door car. Do I have to go the BBlock route or are ther some other mods that would get me the results I am looking for? I don't need to go 40 mph but 15-20 would be nice.

Thanks in advance. Popper

You should be able to pull that around the track without a problem, shorter belt and adjusted gov would be the thing to do. (easy 20mph+) maybe the 28deg driven clutch, that kinda depends on where your trying to pull it

I agree,

I've pulled full weight door cars with no problems at all even when my cart was stock. Unless your motor is worn out the Gov adjustment and belt would be the way to go.

People have mentioned a shorter belt. Can I get this though a dealer? How much shorter do you buy? I think I may have the clutch reworked also. I have had it for four years and not had to do anything other than change the oil. But they thing has never gotten up much speed when pulling. Where do I find info about adjusting the governor?

Thanks Popper

you may want to look into adjusting the valves. they are bad about tightning up over time. I recommend you adjust them evey time you change oil. takes about 10 minutes to do.
