Club Car belt/clutch won't "change", as stuck in "low" gear

Hello. I am very new to this forum, and it seems very interesting. Part of my reason for joining is that my cart has a serious problem. I could not come up with a better description for the title, my apologies. Well, here is my problem: It seems to be stuck in "low" gear. I know the belts change positions (the one coming from the engine gets bigger as the one to the transmission gets smaller, therefore controlling torque/speed). Mine seems not to move at all. It has the governer removed by loosening the bolt on "brass" peice above the transmission. I cannot think of what would be the problem. Any help? Thanks.

EDIT: so in short, it goes about 3-4 mph when fully revved as supposed to 18 normally (I've clocked it). But I've looked, the drive belt doesn't change. The front stays small as the rear stays big.

It sounds like a jammed clutch to me unless the revs aren't going high enough to cause them to close and open properly. Take the belt off and rev the motor while in maintenance mode, observe if the drive clutch closes and if it does (and the engine is revving up normally) you can most likely eliminate that as the culprit and go to the driven clutch for some closer inspection.

It does sound like your clutch is jammed up. If you do run the motor with the belt off, go very easy on it. With the drive belt removed, over-revving the motor becomes super-easy to do once the spinning mass of the transmission gears are removed from the equation.

What year is your cart? By your description of how you removed the governor, I'm guessing it's a 1984-1991 model.

It is a new model club car DS. I know I disabled the governer on my brothers predecent model the same way. I have no idea what is the problem. The belt moves out on the front and back about a inch, and that's it. The engine is revved all they way as well.

If it's a newer-than-1991 CC DS, from what I gather, simply removing the governor may not make the cart go faster. I've never owned one, but as far as I know, you have to leave the governor intact and use zip ties on the governor spring. There are lots of threads about it, just use keywords "zip-tie" and "governor".

Removing the governor will make the cart faster (in conjunction with the limiter) but it's hardly worth the effort when a zip tie will achieve the same thing. Zip ties are also easily removed when your your young ones want to ride the cart and easily replaced when you want to ride a little faster. A bent paper clip will do the trick as well

Thanks guys! I know EXACTLY what it is. While installing a shim mod on my 4-wheeler, it slapped me in the face. Yes, I'm not going to lie, this was my mud cart. And my guess (which is most likely right) is that mud gathered inside the (clutch)? And jammed up the rollers, not allowing it to compress the belt fully to change gear ratio. I am going to strip and clean it tomorrow, and I'll post back if this is the solution so others can benefit.

I like the way I removed it. On the precedent model, I removed the back panel, exposing the transmission. I then loosened a bolt on a lever that the throttle cable pulls. Then I sprayed some silicone oil on the pin, where it stays as the lever moves. Then if I want to fix it back, just tighten the bolt. Plus when I used a zip tie it seemed to use more gas and it would smell like raw fuel. Just my .02. Thanks again guys.

Please post up when you "clean" the clutch. My cart does exactly the same thing. I am not really wanting to take the clutch off as I'm pretty sure it hasn't been removed since it was produced in 2001.

I don't think this is a recommended method to clean your clutch but it worked for me. I blew it out with compressed air as much as possible. Then I squirted a few shots of deep creep in those three little holes on the face if the clutch. Immediate results. The clutch moves freely now. I just wonder how long this "fix" will last.
