Re: Squeak after new front leaf spring install.
When I started. You can see the helper spring on the drivers side is MIA...

Re: Squeak after new front leaf spring install.
On the passager side it looks like it had a plastic shim between the springs. Is that just me.

Re: Squeak after new front leaf spring install.
It did and so does the new one.
I think the squeak is coming from where the two come together in the middle where they mount... |

Re: Squeak after new front leaf spring install.
Mr Golf,
Great catch, it does appear that there is a shim in there which is probably what prevented the old spring from squeaking. Aflyer |

Kashmir,
Sorry Dude, I couldn't see them in the first picture. I would try some grease on those plastic cups to see if that is where the squeak is coming from. Must be driving you crazy. I know it would make me crazy till I found it. Aflyer |

Re: Squeak after new front leaf spring install.
Mine was here Kash. The black rubber bushungs (although they looked good) must have dried out enough that every time I wiggled the steering wheel or rode it the squeaking would drive me krazy! If I got them wet they were quiet. I went to Discount Auto Parts and replaced them with these red urethane bushings. Quiet as a church mouse ever since.....

Re: Squeak after new front leaf spring install.
Think I'm going to try that Nole....
I was thinking about this last night and I DO believe it's the bushings. It would make sense....even if no one is on the cart and you move the steering wheel, it squeaks. No load on the spring at all at that point... |

Re: Squeak after new front leaf spring install.
Yeah, those articulate back and forth slightly with any steering movement. Most of the stock ones are cheap to say the least. These are good old "Made in the USA" and all the info is in the attached pic (they were on the accessories isle). They had blue or red if one or the other better matches your cart. As best I remember, they were less than $20

Re: Squeak after new front leaf spring install.
If it is a copy cat lift you can pretty well bet they didn't use urethane bushings. You really can't go wrong with that upgrade, plus it'll be the last time you'll ever have to change them. Just remember to put a little grease on the shaft and you're good to go.
On edit: I'm a slow typer. Just read Nole's post and for $20 bucks I might do it just for the looks, and too make my copy cat Jakes lift look like it ain't. :) Second edit: $15 at Walmart. com have to wait till 5'th of July though for shipping. Red only. |
