Default Electric 36v Club Car stays on when key switch is off

I have an 88-03 club car 36v golf cart and it runs when the key is turned on or off. I'm not sure what's going on, but I want to make sure I can turn it off with the key. I don't want a kid jumping in it when they shouldn't and taking it for a ride. I thought about just disconnecting the battery but I need it to charge while at work etc. I tested the resistense on the switch with a multimeter and it works correctly. Should there be any voltage to the key switch? Where should I look next? Any clues, testing tips etc that I could do to narrow this down?
Thanks!

Also wanted to mention that when the key is off, forward, neutral and reverse all work the same way as when the key is on.

need to trace your wiring from the key switch back.
I suppose it could be a bad switch as well.

Thanks. From the diagrams that I saw online. It looks like maybe one side of the key switch connects to the negative side of the charger port then the other side connects to and fnb limiter. How in the world does this turn the cart on and off. Just trying to understand how the electronics actually work.

Could be a bad key switch. Pull one of the wires off the switch and see if it still runs. Could be a stuck closed solenoid if that model has one.

We had a post with this same problem not long ago. Seems it had something to do with how wires were hooked. Has any wiring changes been made lately?

I pulled one wire off the switch and it still ran. How do you check for a bad selinoid? No wiring changes made recently. Thanks!

I figured one of the experts would have chimed in by now. Look at these drawings.

If Your 36v cart has a VGlide instead of 5-Solenoids, the problem is the Solenoid is stuck closed.

Replace the Solenoid.

Thanks guys! My son hit a pump and it stopped running. I tapped on the Solenoid ... the key and cart started to work again so I'm replacing it. Now, I noticed that the charger won't shut off on the cart when charging overnight. The charging needle goes all the way down to like 1 amp. I'm wondering if the Solenoid is bad, maybe it's draining the battery just enough to prevent the charger from shutting off?

Thanks again for the help! This is such a great, responsive forum.
