old pin connector to new pin adaptor
Yeah - the "Z" connector on the Regen 1 has numerous pins that seem prone to poor connection (or in your case a failed adapter assembly). A couple people have "fixed" their Regen-1 by soaking with spray contact cleaner and repeated plug/unplug activity to ensure good connection. But in your case you have an intermittent connection in a new part, so it should be properly repaired or replaced.

If not faulty connector(s) then possibly sticking solenoid (try firm rapping of it with handle of screwdriver to see if it "suddenly works" when not working) or a sticky microswitch on your accelerator pedal. I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer - others may have different/better idea. Did you not confirm that your new connector lacked conductivity?

I can't tell from your replies what you have tried. I keep thinking that when it doesn't work, the solenoid doesn't click...yes? Have you tried temporarily jumpering the two posts on that main solenoid (or mount the two big wires on the same post) and see if the problem goes away?

Yes, I read the symptoms before - but what "else" have you tried besides that (AKA jumping main solenoid)? You are experiencing an intermittent fault - which (coincidence or not) started when you loomed the harness. You will have to chase it down.

If you try bypassing the main coil, at least it can tell you if that's the circuit where the intermittent fault is - or if it's somewhere else.
