DPI/ after market chargers vs Stock with OBC
I hope everyone is doing well. So my OBC failed after many years. So I bought a new stand alone DPI charger. I have not deleted the OBC yet I just connected a wire from the back of the charger plug connection in the cart to the negative battery pack side. So WOW I'm impressed with the way the charger charge's. It seems alot different than stock. It's charges the pack up to 52.2 vs Stock Really only did 50.6, this is after resting full charge. So is OBC with a stock charger junk? After investment in some Trojan Rangers, I'm assuming this was the right call with a DPI charger? So can a after market charger help prolong battery life? Thanks

Yes but, it can't do if you don't plug it in regularly

Re: DPI/ after market chargers vs Stock with OBC
You made the right move. The DPI is far superior to the OEM charger. I love mine.
It does seem to charge faster. Yes, no longer need your OBC, rip it out. If your old charger is still good, it has value, sell it. Yes, it will prolong life because the DPI can be set to each brand's charge profile, it will provide the proper charge for your batteries. And I believe it reads the SOC more accurately. |

You'll get better results out of that DPI than you did with the OBC for sure. Especially since you have the Trojan Rangers. The OBC, depending on how old is it and what version the software is, may or may not have been getting full potential out of those batteries. Most likely it wasn't. If it's the old beige OBC, it's calibrated for Trojan T-875s, a much smaller battery by volume. I'd be willing to bet they never received a "full" charge.

So how do you like those Trojan Rangers? Will probably consider them when the time comes. Who did you purchase them from if in Georgia? I can't find a dealer near me north of Atlanta. The OBC will be history when the next set of batteries go in. You made a good decision!

Check craigslist atlanta.
I see them there regular. Here's a pretty fair deal. https://atlanta.craigslist.org/sat/f...242258337.html |
