Default 1988 DS steering “loose”

Hi- I have a 1988 CC DS I rebuilt with a 400 amp Alltrax, new batteries, cables, and a lift.

The steering wheel has some “play” in it- and it was like that when I got it.

I can turn the wheel almost ¼ turn before the wheels start to steer. This makes it quite inconvenient to drive. Does anyone have an idea as to what’s causing this, and how it can be fixed? I don’t want it to get worse over time either...

Thank you!
Luke

yep ... you need to tightin the adjustment screw
not to tight or you can not turn wheel
mine i had to loosen the jam nut and use a flat washer in a vice grip pliers to turn the adjustment screw (some have a nut type end )

I can’t seem to find that screw- my steering mechanism looks different than yours. I wonder if it has been modified?

This is what I have. Where is the adjustments screw in relation to this? Thank you. Luke.

So I should loosen the very large nut around it and then tighten the small center nut?
