Default 2005 precedent IQ slow in grass and on ANY incline.

Hello guys, I am brand new to the site and love all the great info I have read so far. I just got this cart and I charged it up and all batteries (3 yrs old trojan)read 12v and the total is 48 via tester. The cart will zip right along on the driveway (flat), but as soon as you hit the grass, it is at a crawl. get back up on the driveway and it gradually gets back up to speed. seems like low to no torque. any help would be great. I am so new at this I don't know where to start. is this normal with electric carts? I tried searching things but I am not really sure what to search for besides "slow cart" haha
thanks again

Welcome to BGW
Sounds like batteries not taking a full charge and stock controller.

A cart that is slow in the grass usually means batteries.

Charge the batteries until the charger turns off. Could be 16 hours. Full charge voltage is 50.9 volts. 48 volts is batteries have run down not enough to run the cart.

Ok that all makes sense. I just went back out to make sure it is charging and the battery light stays on on the cart. The manual mentioned that it can indicate a battery issue. I have a feeling I am going to be In The market for some new batteries. The guy I got it from did not keep it on the charger so the batteries would drain. And then he would charge them up. From what I have read I want to keep them plugged in right?!? With the automatic charger of course.

At the very least charge them every day or night after you are finished using it for the day. Leave it plugged in when not in use.

And they are not too old so give them a few weeks of steady use and charge and see if you start to gain some of it back. And be sure to keep an eye on your water levels. 1/4"-1/2" over the plated is correct.

Also be sure all the terminals are clean and tight for the cables.

ok thanks man. I just recharged and tested. One battery dropped to 10 and one to 11.5 the other two were 12.9 total cart not under load 49.1
sounds low but I'm new. All water levels are good (distilled water at the ready)
oh and all terminals are super clean he kept it nice, inside and out. Checked all bolts also. I am learning.

Those 2 batteries that are low, you need to hook your automotive style charger up to each of those batteries one at a time and try to charge them separately. Do this only after you have charged the entire pack. If you can get those 2 to come up I thing you will be good.

And that is low. You want to achieve ~50.9 volts 12 hours after the charge has completed.
