83 Marathon

I'm new to here and have a few questions about my new to me golf cart. The jug and piston were out of the motor when I got it. It's a 2pg two stroke and I'm either looking for a new crank shaft or can the bearing for the lower connecting be replaced? I do know that some crankshafts can be pressed apart and replaced. I know there are kits out there but I want to fix it the right way without dropping alot of money in the motor when I need to the seats, top with braces and mod a rear seat and rear springs. Any help would be great. Thank you pics to come after I get home today

Welcome to BGW !!!! I'm sure anything is possible until you brought up the $$$$ thing. First are you sure the rod bearing is bad ?? I've had 3 engines and only had to replace the crank bearings not saying it's not bad

Yes i'm sure the crank can be pressed apart but now the ??? where are you going to get a replacement bearing ? and is it even cost effective to go that far with a 244 cc engine. If you would elect to go that far and the $$$ involved then I guess you could have a machine shop find a replacement inserted rod for a replacement and then you'll be good to go. Cost effective ????? Think I'd go with the crank kit unless you REALLY like the cart

The motor must have had water in it at one time because the crank is rusted and the connecting rod bearing isn't smooth turning. I only paid 400 for the cart with a new custom paint and diamond plate all over it. Plus all the work besides pressing the crank I'll be doing the work myself motor rebuild would only cost me in parts

K got it !!! where R you going to get the bearing???? I'm still thinking a crank kit is in order but it's your call. Sounds like a nice cart post some pics and parts needed and I'm sure we can help.

I found a buddy of mine that says he can get me the bearing and do it. I'll get pics up of the cart later and pics of the crank

You may want to look around and see if you can get a used motor, or crank. May save you money. And generally speaking, these things are pretty bullet proof, if you get one used, in good shape, it should last about forever.
If you have your friend press it apart and back together, be sure he gets the 2 parts aligned correctly and he has the correct side clearance.
