Two cycle engines also need good primary compression.. A blown crankshaft seal or crankcase gasket will kill the primary compression and engine performance..

How do you check the primary compression? At this point I was planning on doing a top end engine job. Replacing the jug, along with new piston rings and wristpin. Is there a wristpin bearing, I haven't seen one in the list of parts with the piston kit. Should I just replace the crankshaft seal or gasket, or is it a big pain. Thanks

I was experiencing the same symptoms with my 90 ez go marathon. I ended up having a broken piston on the exhaust side of the piston. 90 lbs. is low so it would be worth your time to do a top end rebuild in my opinion. There is a wrist pin bearing (which I didn't replace on mine because my kit didn't come with one).

Checking primary compression can be difficult or easy depending on engine design.. One way to check crankcase seal integrity is to spray carb cleaner around the shaft seals, and case gaskets with the engine running.. The engine will change "tune" when the cleaner is sucked past a blown seal/gasket and is burned in the engine..

Due to the age of the cart, I would plan on pulling the engine for a complete teardown, and replace all of the seals and gaskets, and inspect the reed valves for proper sealing..

I tore down my 1984 244-cc and was only doing the top end. I started to clean out the bottom end and a lot of particles of carbon and metal was coming out. I was using gas. It was not coming clean, The crap just kept coming. The next thing I saw was gas leaking out the seal so I split the cases and its a good thing I did. The crank bearings were coming apart. It would not have lasted an hour with all the compression pushing on those bearings. these suppliers had every thing I needed and the best pricing.
