Default 1988 EZGO Marathon Oil/Gas Mixture

I am new on here and will be posting my rebuild. Can you please help with the oil/fuel mixture for my 1988 Marathon? So many conflicting reports on the web. I just got my cart, owner was using 32/1, but it seems sluggish. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The manual states that you should run the first tank at 40:1 for breaking in the engine and then after run at 128:1. Many guys wince at such a lean mixture but that is what the book says.

Not sure on the break in period, dave box is correct at 1 oz per gallon for light duty, and 1.5 oz per gallon for heavy duty use.

The previous owner ran it 32:1, and it runs sluggish. Will it hurt to back it down to the proper mixture? Thanks

I run 100:1 in the cart. 1.5 oz. per gallon
I looked all around and was surprised that couldn’t find any information on which oil to run in these carts. Coming from the 2-stroke outboard world, I was quite surprised that there weren’t any discussions on which oil to use. To me, running the proper oil is just an important, if not more important, than your oil ratio.

I keep several gallons of Evinrude XD50 outboard oil on hand for my boat and decided to run a couple of tanks. It smoked a lot and left deposits in the combustion chamber. IT didn’t foul the plug but got ey close to it

Next I tried MAXIMA Formula K2 Racing Premix Oil. The stuff was excellent. Smoke was all but gone and after two tanks of fuel, the inside of the engine looked great. This would be my oil of choice if my local cycle shop carried it in stock

I'm currently running Yamalube® 2R Competition Two-Stroke Oil. I'm half way through my second tank of fuel and so far so good. The cylinder is not as clean as it was with the Maxima but I can live with it.

The answer to your question is, no it won't hurt to run at 125:1. If it makes you feel safer 100:1 will be fine.

128:1 or even a little more is what I run in my 88. I use a synthetic racing 2 stroke oil. It's smokey but have no problems for 2 years now.

100:1 Is fine even in all-out abuse(Trust Me)1-1/2 oz/gal.is more than sufficient even with standard oils.Just make sure it is a mix-oil not injection-oil(unless stated that it works for both)i use Havoline 2-cycle.We've been running our carts at 1-1/2 oz. for 10 years and have only rebuilt one of the motors once(ring broke). My cart gets a regular workout in the woods almost daily on dusty and muddy trails and there are alot of high-speed (22-24mph) runs as well as climbing and hauling.Use your own judgement as well as others suggestions, just adding my experiences to the list
