Sorry, a little thread hijack here but reading Old Mec's response and it brings up a question. Can you fix/replace a bad cell in these types of batteries? Probably sounds like a dumb question but I really don't know. I was assuming a bad cell is as good as a bad battery and so the whole thing had to be replaced.

You're correct, the battery would need to be replaced.

I used to install 11/2 volt cells the size of automobiles, well volkswagens not Buick 225s.
we used to charge, discharge 3 cycles and test after 3 hour wait before the phone company would except turn over. 24 of them lined up had some amp hours.
I agree wait then test.
