1989 2 Stroke Problems
My grandmother just gave us her 1989 EZGO 2 stroke. It's in exceptionally good shape and it starts readily, but will not accelerate consistently. I have heard that compression problems will cause this. Any other suggestions? Also, anyone know where to find manuals on this model? I want to trick it out for hunting purposes. Thanks.

Re: 1989 2 Stroke Problems
i have a mid 80's kart like yours.i'm not sure what "does not accelerate consistently" means.. does it some times run fine? anyway my kart was starving for fuel..so i cleaned up the carb and filters and that did the trick .

Re: 1989 2 Stroke Problems
Well, it will startup fine....it idles but only ocasionally will it accelerate beyond an idle. I called a local dealer/service co. and was told that it most likely was a compression issue. The carb is brand new and fuel filters checked out fine. pulled the hose off the outlet of fuel pump and it is working.

Re: 1989 2 Stroke Problems
doesnt sound like compression to me.i would take my exhaust loose from the bottom to create a massive leak .sounds like your getting fuel into the engine with the new carb but maybe it isn't getting out.,which will cause the same problem..

Re: 1989 2 Stroke Problems
the exhaust mufflers(really expansion chambers) get loaded up over the years with crap , if this is your problem, you could vat , and clean the one you have or just replace it. taking the exhaust loose will tell you real quick if this is your problem. the motor should rev up real quickly.i woulddo the test on jack stands

Re: 1989 2 Stroke Problems
Tried it, took the muffler completely off and still having the same problem. It almost seems like it is not getting enough fuel. I can work the choke in and out and after a bit it will take off then die out to an idle again. What is it that tells the engine to rev up? I know that sounds silly because the accelerator does that but I do not see the cable from the gas pedal moving much on top of the carb, although if I manually move the arm on top of the carb there is still no increase in RPMs. Is there something electrical that advances the spark or otherwise controls RPM?

Re: 1989 2 Stroke Problems
ok. turn the key off. check to see when you push the acelerator down the carb opens up fully. if not ,adjust the cable. let me know what happens.rt
