1994 or older Marathon vs. 1995 or new Medalist
Was wondering if the performance was the same between the two or does the Medalist have more power? Any reasons to stay away from one vs. the other for any reason(s)? tks

Re: 1994 or older Marathon vs. 1995 or new Medalist
I've had a 88 and 92 marathon and 2001 medalist all series. Stock they seem to have the same speed range. The weight difference with the plastic body give the medalist an edge. Brakes suck on all. Steering is easier on the medalist, but more expensive to fix if you brake it. Upgrade parts for modification is limited on older carts. But you can find pretty cheap parts for old carts if you just want to keep it stock. All depends on what you want. But I would go newer..a medalist Series cart. just my 2 cents.

Thanks. What does the word "series" mean in relation to the cart? I have seen terms like PDS and DSC I think. Are these options to the "series". If a 1994 has a TXT body on it could it be plastic or would it be metal? tks

Re: 1994 or older Marathon vs. 1995 or new Medalist
I am not techie..but will try. series, Pds, and dcs are different motor and speed control systems. Series motors are simpler and more common. Pds and dcs are regene motors...they will recharge your batteries when you coast down hill. In theory you can go farther. However they are more complex and you will sometimes see people talk about towing their cart without switching the run/tow switch and blowing a lot of things. More people seem to like the series motor set up if doing mods to their cart. I am not sure if or when the medalist had a dcs or Pds model. At the to of the page under the stickies there are handy guides on how to id a cart.

'Medalist'= a metal bodied TXT.
Skip the marathon and it's cousin the "metalist" and go straight to the 96 & up TXT. Avoid the DCS In a perfect world ... Use the series carts off-road and the PDS on the street. That's it. |

Okay this is good info. So why stay away from the DCS? Why the PDS over the Series? I only plan to use on the street and flat streets at the beach. tks
