2015 Bad Boy Ambush IS Speed Modifications
I am looking into speeding up my ambush gas mode. Currently it is running 26 MPH in electric mode and a disappointing 20 MPH in gas at 3400 RPM. It has a Schafer/Dana H-12 FNR rear end with 14.36:1 ratio and after countless hours of research, I found a set of 10.15:1 gears for it. This should get me to 26-30 MPH without over reving the motor.
Has anyone attempted this or have you had any issues with regen limits? I’m not sure if the electric motor has a preset speed sensor that would engage regen to slow its speed. It does have a regen low, high and off selector switch but curious if off position will keep it off at speeds over preset limit. Can the controller on electric side be programed to a higher speed limit? Any input would be greatly appreciated. |

Yes you can check, adjust etc with the handheld. I'll post in a moment.

They do like to take a break from time to time but I really enjoy the hybrid portion of it. I like the ability of changing from gas mode to electric motor but mostly running electric and only use gas when battery life is low or traveling long-distances. I would be really interested in finding someone who has turned one up to run over 25 mph.

I too would like to know how to do this. I did do some research and I found a replacement motor for my 2013 that will bring it to about 780cc (another Vanguard). The accessories for these seem scarce.

Also, what is the recommended programmer to use? I see there is the newer 1313 and the 1311.

Re: 2015 Bad Boy Ambush IS Speed Modifications
Steevireno did you swap your engine out?
I have a 2016 Bad Boy Ambush with the 720cc Subaru 28HP engine. Speed in gas is usually around 19-20mph but mine is at the dealer right now getting in warranty service work done. While it's there they said they would bump the RPM to 3900 which will get me to about 30mph. They said Textron gave dealers the ok to do that modification without voiding warranty. I'm hoping to pick mine up possibly tomorrow and looking forward to testing after the tweak. If all else fails I was curious if anyone has successfully done an engine replacement? I know these things get a bad rap but I'm one of the few that like to have the best of both worlds gas/electric. I've been able to creep up within 20 yards of Deer and they have no idea I'm there. When I run out of battery or stuck in heavy mud it's nice to have the gasoline option. |
