Default Replacing Front Hub/Wheel Bearings on '09 Precedent

I have an '09 Precedent. I am servicing the front end by putting in new bushings, shocks, and hub/wheel bearings. These bearings are the sealed type bearings and each wheel hub has an inner bearing, an outer bearing, and a spacer between them.

What is the best way to pull the old sealed bearings and put in the new sealed bearings? Are there specific bearing pullers designed to go into the hole in the center of the bearing after removal of the hub from the axle, lock in place somehow, and thus allow removal of the bearings?

I do not have a press. Can I use a flat metal plate and a 3 lb sledge to gently tap the new bearings into place in the hub?

G'day,

Vinish

Any advice on how to change out these hub bearings would be greatly appreciated.

You can do it without a vice. couple blocks of wood and a punch of sort.
When you put new ones in you dont have to press them in you can tap them in with a hammer and a large socket. Pretty straight forward. Good Luck !!!

First check around the lug studs for any signs of cracking or deformation. The early versions of these hubs were prone to cracking and the lug studs can pull out. If there is any visible cracking replace the hub assembly.

Bearings can be tapped out easy enough with a punch and a hammer. Don’t forget to put the spacer back in.

I just ordered a pair of front hubs for a 97 DS for about $60 so you might want to check into that option. I’ve used a socket under my drill press chuck to “press “ small bearings in the past
