Charging outside
If I charge my cart outside, is it okay to put the charger on the floorboard to charge? I want to keep it off the ground and out of the elements of weather but afraid the charger might get warm and damage the floorboard. If my voltage reducer is placed in the open area by the batteries, is it okay to put the charger on top of it or will it get too warm?

Re: Charging outside
I put chargers on the floorboard all the time. Never had a problem. But I would not want it there during blowing rain/thunderstorm. Gotta watch that.

Re: Charging outside
Been charging carts outdoors for years.... even in a light rain at times with just a piece of ply or plastic on top of the charger. These things not as delicate as you might think

Re: Charging outside
A couple times/year, I have my cart parked next to my camper "out in the field". for a week or 3. Mine is an RXV with the appropriate charger (I forget the model, but it's that all solid-state job). I lay a 5-gallon bucket on its side, with the closed end ("bottom") propped up a bit, and put the charger inside its little "house". Works great!
I'll sometimes put the charger on the floor, but that really doesn't do a good job of keeping it dry when/if it rains. |

Re: Charging outside
One time it got below 70 degrees here and my cart still charged and ran fine.
You can imagine my surprise |

Re: Charging outside
After the lastest cold spells we learned that chargers have a temperature threshold. For instance, the Delta Q won't start up if temp goes below -20 or above 140. This is to prevent charging if the batteries had been frozen, but of course, if you batteries froze then you don't really love your cart. The fact that daroosta25 asked the question to begin with is a fine example of cart parenting.

Re: Charging outside
I've used the charger sitting on the floorboard but a couple of 2x4's between them would guarantee your peace of mind.
