Default Starter generator issue's - who's done it, what did you do?

Ok, My starter gen is making a sweet wheering noise, can hear the thing a block away. It also is a bit out of adjustment as either the belts not tight enough, or the pulley is fd. Anyone ever buy a new one on ebay? - they are just over $100.. Anyway there is the wheering noise, sounds like it needs new bearings and who knows what else. Anyone ever take the thing apart and replace the bearings? - is it worth it? Or should I just get a new one? I think it still charges fine.

Wonder if you could take it to a motor place, and have them rebuild it..... Not sure if it will be much cheaper tho.

If you have club car starter get it rebuilt. It will last longer than new eBay one.

Starters are very simple. For me, Its rather rare that I replace one completely.

Sounds like bearings are your issue. Simple enough to change them if you have the tools.

I always take mine to a local auto electric shop, they fix them usually the same day and for way less than a factory replacement.

My buddies S/G wore out, he took it to a rebuilder and was quoted about the same price as ebay...
He chose the ebay one because "it was new"... it fried in less than 2 years!

Ebay garbage starters... I love it when people put those on.

Yeah... it wasn't my recommendation, but he was on a budget!
Fortunately he sold the cart before it went bad,
however... I did get an ear full from the present owner because he knew that I helped him build it!

Thanks for the advise, I just ordered a disposable one off ebay to get me through the summer, I'll try and rebuild the old one in the winter and keep the other one for a backup if it lasts that long. No time to tinker right now.. click buy it now.. get in mail, swap out. I'll just treat it like a harbor freight tool.

Last one I put bearings in took about an hour to get it apart and pop the new ones in. Takes a bit longer when you don't have the parts on hand already. Get it apart and head to napa for bearings. Brushes you should get through club car or get genuine club car online. Cheapo brushes wear out in no time.
