The "Constant Power" wire is also what powers the radio electronics and the amp section when you turn the "Switched Power" wire ON.

The point is that connecting that wire to a single battery will place the entire load of the radio on that battery.

That is your prerogative but other members should look at their radio instructions before connecting to a single battery and causing imbalance to their battery packs.

So are you saying when the cart is on and the solenoid has power that in sends to the reducer/voltage regulator, that the 12v that goes to the fuse box and then passes through to the second radio power wire, that there is no current on that wire from the pack?

If so why doesn't the radio work without that second power wire connected?

There are two sources of power to car Radios.

A "constant power" wire, usually Yellow, that provides 100% of the Radio's power requirement.

A "switched power" wire, usually Red, that provides a trigger signal (low current) so the Radio knows when to turn ON.

The standard has been in effect for decades (why I said radios manufactured this century) that minimizes current consumption on the ignition start system (switch or button).

While there may be some Radios out there that do not follow the standard, most do, but when in doubt one can always place an ammeter in series with each of the wires to determine where the current is coming from.

Most marine radios and some newer models have non-volatile memory so no current is needed when the radio is OFF.
