Re: What is the most cost effective way to get a 20mph cart?
I just found a 1994 Medalist in decent shape for $250, but needs new batteries.
Should I jump on it since I am shopping for new batteries anyways? Is there something in particular I should inspect on the cart before I buy it? Could I get to 20mph without adding batteries? (PQ, Alltrax, etc) What would it take to convert this 94 Medalist to 48V if needed? Thanks. |

Re: What is the most cost effective way to get a 20mph cart?
Good, Fast, and Cheap...you can only have two in life. Do a search on 12v boost. People have added a 12v boost to their carts. From what I have seen, mostly to resistor carts. It a way to get 48v on resistor carts, this combined with 22inch tires will most likely get ya 20mph on flat ground while the boost in going. I sold my 88 resistor cart before seeing this setup. To go to 48v on all most any cart, you are gonna have to replace the solenoid, controller, plus batteries. Find a nice solid Series cart and build it up from there. If you got the money, just buy a new cart with the specs you want.

I have a 1993 Marathon I love. Put 20'' tires, will fit w/o a lift, and fresh batteries and you will be close to 16-18 mph vice the 12 mph you are getting now.

Re: What is the most cost effective way to get a 20mph cart?
turbo, i have a medalist that i love. it has a txt frt end tho. 20 mph?-i go 20.8 the last time i checked. it took 8 sams batterys @ $72 each, 4 ga. cables $120 plus, 480 amp controller from logi. $305, h.d. solenoid $65, and a h.d. fnr for about $120. could have saved some money by building my own cables and getting scotty"S fnr upgrade. can't add or don't want to , but i love it. jim

Well I wanted to stay old school... but I've gone to the Dark Side! I was able to get a 2003 TXT PDS delivered to my house for $800 this weekend. No charger, but batteries are in decent shape. There are a few minor things wrong (broken light switch, etc) but all in all a good buy in my opinon. I look forward to modding it up!

Follow up:
Just added a Freedom Chip (Ebay $4.75 shipped) and tested out the TXT. I definitely noticed the difference. My wife drove next to me to track my speed. My street is on a slight incline. Speed was approximately 19 mph up the street and 21 mph down the street! Not bad for $805 plus the cost of a charger. I'm using the Marathon charger for now. Time to start planning for more upgrades! |

Now, that wasn't so hard, was it? Enjoy the build now.
There's a charger for sale here now, for $125. Nevermind... it sold yesterday. |
